ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the blockbuster news on X, writing, “Parsons and the Packers already have reached agreement on a four-year, $188 million contract. @DavidMulugheta of @Athletesfirst had a hand in the trade and ultimately negotiating the record-breaking contract that includes $120 million fully guaranteed at signing and makes Parsons the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history.”
Parsons entered training camp entering the final year of his five-year rookie contract. The dominant former first-round pick made it known early that he would not be a full participant in camp while he tended to a back injury and waited for Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones to negotiate a new contract that would make him the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL.
Over the past several weeks, what began as a negotiation between Jones and Parsons has turned into a public spat with Jones openly admitting he refused to speak to the defensive end’s agent, while Parsons often took to social media to suggest he was ready to go somewhere else, before eventually he publicly announced that he had officially requested a trade.ESPN Sources: Cowboys are trading three-time All-Pro LB Micah Packers to the Green Bay Packers.

The return Dallas is getting for Parsons has not yet been revealed, but previous trades involving a similar level of star player have netted the team multiple first-round draft picks as well as additional picks in later rounds.
Though not as blindsidingly shocking as the Dallas Mavericks trade of Luka Doncic in February, this move from the Cowboys has every chance to be as impactful, given Parsons’ dominance in sacking quarterbacks and being one of the most disruptive forces in the NFL over the past four seasons.
