It’s been really hot around here for a long while, but many throughout North Texas have felt something unusual over the past few days: rain.
Only one week into November, we’ve had enough rain to almost forget that October came and went with hardly a drop.
According to NBC 5, this October was the warmest on record, in fact, and just barely missed out on being the driest for North Texas.
“At DFW Airport, where records are kept, it was the warmest October on record. The average temperature was 75.7 degrees,” the NBC report stated. “DFW would have been the driest on record without any measurable precipitation but the rain that fell on Halloween put us as the 9th driest October. 0.21 [inches] of rain fell on October 31st.”
Just this week, we’ve seen more rain than we did in all of October, thanks to the 2.5 inches that fell on Monday.
But what about the rest of the month? Can we finally turn the sprinklers off for good, or will the bone-dry conditions of October come roaring back?
Temps will be pretty mild the next couple of weeks. A few rounds of rain will be possible too! #wfaaweather pic.twitter.com/14kCB3qwnR

According to WFAA meteorologist Pete Delkus, there could be more rain and storms in the next few days. He forecasts a 70% chance of rain on Friday and a 20% chance of rain on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
According to the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center, North Texas is likely to see more rain as the month progresses. The monthly precipitation outlook map says this area has either an equal chance of rain for November, which averages a bit more than 2.5 inches, or even an above normal chance for additional precipitation for the northernmost reaches of the area, just north of Dallas and Fort Worth.
So, we may not get too much more, but we’ll probably get some, so that’s good for the plants and our yards. What might not be great, however, is that the Climate Prediction Center’s November forecast seems to be sticking to its earlier prediction that we’ll likely continue to see higher-than-average temperatures as November rolls on.
DFW appears to have a 40-50% chance of higher-than-average temps, with the average November temperature in Dallas of around 68 degrees. Now, a little warmer than that still means we’ll be cooler than we were when October decided to be rather unreasonable this year.
