There appeared in the Dallas Voice yesterday a story in which attorney John Barr -- who was, till recently, Don Hill’s campaign treasurer -- backs up Ed Oakley's claims that Hill offered his endorsement to Oakley in exchange for his hiring Hill's campaign staff. Two of Hill's chief campaign staffers have denied this on Unfair Park, both yesterday and today. Hill himself just posted a comment to today's item in which he addresses Barr's allegations, and it reads as follows:
--Robert WilonskyJohn,
I respect you greatly, but you are wrong about any endorsement of Oakley for campaign money. I know you are relying on secondhand info since you were not present at any meetings, but let me assure that whoever told you there was such a proposal is not being truthful with you. I exercised my best judgment in my decision to support Tom Leppert.
We have disagreed on other issues during the campaign. For example, you felt very strongly that the crime tax was the best way to fund more police officers. I disagreed! The VOTERS said no! I respect your judgments. Please respect mine.
