Not sure if you’re aware of it, because damned if I’ve seen mention of this anywhere, but we’re mere days away from the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Texas Centennial Exposition at Fair Park. Gates opened June 6, 1936, and it ran through the end of November. I do know the Dallas Center for Architecture’s planning something to commemorate the work of architect George Dahl, who remade the park in advance of the World’s Fair. But till that exhibition’s a little further along, there’s always this:
Whilst looking for Expo keepsakes on eBay this afternoon I stumbled across the most remarkable collection of photos, all from The Baltimore Sun archives and each one being sold individually by the Tribune Company. Some have a day or two left on the bidding; others, a few weeks. But they’re all original wire-service photos from the archives, each one coming with its own certificate of authenticity, groovy.
I found eight: here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. The latter, described as “crowd listening to and watching radio broadcast in Dallas,” is a favorite — my God, look at all those people. But they’re all worth owning. Bring ’em home. Somebody?
