Pardon the musical interlude so early in the morning; blame an overnight missive from Jeff Liles. He sends very advance word: David Garza’s getting Twang Twang Shock-a-Boom together for the first time in 20 years at The Kessler on July 17 — which is awful big news for Merritt Martin and those of us who came of age on the University of Texas campus in the late ’80s and Deep Ellum in the early ’90s, when the Irving native and It’s a Twang Thang were as inescapable as burnt orange.
And it reminded me: Over on Archive.org a few weeks back I came across this pristine, you-are-there David Garza show at Club Dada dating back to August ’91 — and, well, Jeff’s e-mail and the promise of the first 90-degree day since forever seemed a good time to share. Having actually written about this show for the Dallas Times Herald, I remember this like it was 19 years ago — I can almost see Juliana Sheffield now; special guests Reggie Rueffer and Brandon Aly too. Now, those were the good ol’ days.
