Support the independent voice of Dallas and help keep the future of Dallas Observer free.
So, about that Corvette that pulled in a little too close to the Lemmon Avenue La Madeleine on Friday. A couple of Friends pointed out in the comments that it was a Hertz rental special. No kidding: It's so rare, matter of fact, that this morning, news of the crash makes its way onto Jalopnik, Gawker Media's car-cultist blog. Last month, upon receiving the Hertz media release concerning the new toy, the site gushed over the 'Vette ZHZ -- "a special limited-edition, equipped with a 436 HP 6.2-liter V8 under the hood tied to a flappy paddle gearbox for the true Rent-a-Racer feel." Turns out, there are only 500 of them available in the U.S. Or, ya know, 499 at the moment. --Robert Wilonsky
Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
