Hell of a way to bookend the day -- in a courtroom first thing in the morning watching Tom Hicks's attorneys fight to keep ownership of Liverpool FC, then at the Ballpark in Arlington tonight to watch Tom Hicks's old team fight to keep home-field advantage over the New York Yankees in its first-ever American League Championship Series. (Not liveblogging that. Unless ... beer.) Just wanted to pass along a few notes from Texas Rangers spokesman John Blake regarding tonight and tomorrow's first-pitch ceremonies and other important details for those planning on getting a jump on The Big Event:
Current Rangers President and all-time major league strikeout
leader Nolan Ryan will throw out the ceremonial first pitch to fellow
Rangers Hall of Famer Jim Sundberg. Texas Country artist Stoney Larue
will sing "The Star Spangled Banner" before the 7:07 p.m. CDT start.
"God Bless America" will be performed during the seventh-inning stretch by
Michael Borts, who has performed the National Anthem and Star Spangled
Banner for Rangers games for over two decades.
On Friday, the colors will be presented by the City of Arlington Police
and Fire Department Color Guards. A flyover of four F-16's from the
301st Fighter Squadron of the Fort Worth Naval Air Station follows the
National Anthem. The first 40,000 fans will receive a Rangers Rally
Towel, compliments of J.C. Penney.
Saturday's Game 2 will start at 3:07 p.m. CDT. Former Rangers pitcher
and Baseball Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins will perform the first pitch
ceremonies, also to his catcher with the Rangers, Jim Sundberg. Country
performer Steve Wariner will sing the National Anthem, and fellow country
star Neal McCoy will perform "God Bless America." The first 40,000 fans
will receive a Rangers Rally Towel, compliments of Rudy's Barbeque and
Metro PCS, on Saturday.
The Rangers Ballpark in Arlington parking lots will open five hours
before the start of Games 1 and 2 with the Ballpark gates opening three
hours prior to first pitch. In addition to the Rangers normal parking
lots, the Cowboys Stadium Lot 4 parking lot, located at the corner of
Randol Mill Road and Legends Way, will be open for cash parking. All
cash parking for ALCS games is priced at $15.
And Jamey Newberg sends word for those needing to color-coordinate: The team's wearing red tonight. No doubt in solidarity with
their British brethren.
