Although other cities experienced troubles of varying sorts related to the No Kings series of protests around the country, the Saturday afternoon rally near Dallas City Hall, reportedly attended by thousands, was largely peaceful and trouble-free.

Elsewhere on Saturday afternoon, the Texas Capitol was evacuated after the Texas Department of Public Safety identified what it called “a credible threat” to lawmakers and Capitol staffers who may be working inside the building ahead of the 5 p.m. No Kings protest in Austin.

Earlier on Saturday in Minnesota, police say the suspect in the murder of Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband had No Kings protest flyers in their vehicle, although no direct evidence tied the suspect to the protest organizers or suggested the suspect was targeting the protest itself. Minnesota No Kings events were cancelled following the shootings.

"The 'No Kings' mobilization is a direct response to Donald Trump’s self-aggrandizing $100 million military parade and birthday celebration, an event funded by taxpayers while millions are told there's no money for Social Security, SNAP, Medicaid, or public schools," stated a press release for the series of protests.

The Dallas Morning News reported that “in Dallas alone, up to 10,000 people gathered for the demonstration at its peak.” Prior to Saturday, national No Kings organizers estimated that as many as 1,800 events across the country would take place on Saturday.

The Observer was among the thousands at the No Kings protest in Dallas. Here are some of our favorite signs from the event.
