A spokesperson from the Irving PD said over the phone on Wednesday morning that FBG Murda, real name Cayto Rivers, was shot a little past 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1000 block of East Irving Blvd.
A statement from the Irving PD sent to the Observer describes the rapper, although he was shot, not as the victim, but as a suspect.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that a dispute between two customers (suspects) and the business owners (victims) escalated into a physical altercation," the statement reads. "The suspects had entered a restricted area of the muffler shop. When confronted and asked to leave, they became verbally aggressive and brandished firearms. To prevent the suspects from drawing their weapons, the victims physically restrained them. During the struggle, the suspects threatened to shoot the victims. As one victim held onto a suspect, the suspects attempted to flee in a vehicle, dragging the victim alongside. During this altercation, a firearm was discharged, and one suspect was struck."
According to police, the suspects who fled the scene were identified as Elijah Jacobs, 21, and the one who was shot as Rivers. Officers took the rapper to a hospital for treatment, and Jacobs was booked into jail. FBG Murda remains hospitalized and will be booked into jail once medically cleared.
To be clear, the Irving PD lists FBG Murda as a suspect in this case, and not a victim. He and Jacobs are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Over the past two years, FBG Murda has racked up millions of Spotify streams, with "D to the Murder," a track he recorded with another Texas rapper, BAK Jay, receiving more than 11,000 streams on its own. In June, the Observer named FBG Murda No. 1 on our list of 20 Dallas-Fort Worth Rappers to Watch. Here’s what we had to say about the young artist:
The Dallas Drill movement went viral in 2024, with South Dallas rapper FBG Murda and his treacherous raps and dynamic flow at the forefront. He rose to the top of the music scene through beef, controversial antics and making the best drill music.
With over 560,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, his popularity took off thanks to viral hits like "King of Drill" and "Belt To Ass (BTA)." His fame skyrocketed even further after collaborating with Fort Worth’s BAK Jay in late 2024, resulting in hit songs such as "D To Da Murda," "My Lil Shi" and "3AM In The Yams."
FBG signed a deal with 10K Projects in 2023. A debut album is slated for 2025.
Images and videos purporting to be from the scene of the shooting began circulating on social media Tuesday, although there hasn't been any official confirmation that those are legitimate.
This is a developing story and will be updated when new information comes along.
