The Mavericks easily dismantled the lowly Hornets yesterday, a decidedly unimpressive feat given the quality of the opponent and the fact that the Mavs are now officially out of the playoff hunt.
Still, this was perhaps the biggest victory of the season, because it brings the Mavs' record to .500, an even 40-40. That means that Dirk and Co. can finally shear off the moderately unsettling but otherwise righteous facial hair they've been growing since agreeing to a no-shaving pact in February.
Luckily the NBA caught Dirk's post-game barbering on camera. Despite the jaunty music, it's really a bittersweet moment. On the one hand, it's visible proof that the Mavs aren't completely terrible this year, just completely mediocre. On the other, it eliminates the one compelling reason to watch the final two games of the season.
