The latest non-development in Russ Martin’s assault case in Tarrant County is actually a development.
After a couple of time-wasting, docket-management appearances in Fort Worth over the last three months, Martin showed up again this morning and got the word:
His trial date is July 27.
By that time it will be more than a year since his arrest for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, who is these days his fiancee.

“We were hoping to have our day in court today,” says Martin’s attorney, Tim Powers. “Russ looks forward to full closure of this situation so that he and his fiancee can move on. When you have a client who is innocent, as is the case here, the old adage “justice delayed is justice denied” clearly couldn’t be more descriptive of the situation at hand.”
Again, I’m just a dorky sportswriter not all that well-versed in the world of jurisprudence. I have no idea whether the guy is innocent or guilty.
But the longer this thing gets weakened and delayed, the more I get the feeling Russ is gonna walk.
You?
