The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $12,500 by August 9.
In case you kept your ears and eyes plugged this past weekend, let us tell you just four teams are still standing in the NCAA tournament. Florida, Wisconsin, UConn and Kentucky have all survived two grueling weekends of hoops and earned a trip to the Final Four in North Texas (i.e. Arlington).
You’ll notice right off that none of those teams is Duke. The normally reliable Blue Devils, who have at least made the Sweet 16 in 13 of the past 17 season, were bounced by Mercer in the first round.
So kindly ignore the Final Four wrap on the Omni Dallas, which inexplicably features a Duke player and was apparently impossible to redesign following the Blue Devils’ early exit. And never mind that Duke doesn’t have a No. 12 on its roster. The guy in the picture, forward/token white dude Alex Murphy, recently transferred to Florida, and while the Gators are in the Final Four, Murphy won’t be eligible to play until next season.
