Even for a State of the Union address, Tuesday night’s speech by President Obama was stupefying. As usual, the most fun part of the evening was the fragmented Republican response — seriously, name a Republican with any sort of national prominence and he or she issued his or her own response — and Ted Cruz’s performance made Unfair Park’s night.
The Texas first-termer promised to deliver an off-the-cuff reply to the president’s speech, and that’s just what he, sorta, did. Making use of a smartphone camera in a capital hallway. The first version of the video, posted below, was uploaded to YouTube, briefly, by Cruz’s social media team. Cruz, seemingly annoyed with his disjointed take on what the president said, gives up and starts over, showing some impressive mental dexterity.
Cruz’s usual smarminess aside, the video is a bit charming. If you watch just the giving up bit a few times, it takes on a zen-like quality.
