U.S. News & World Report ranks programs in six categories: education, law, engineering, business, medicine and nursing. The rankings are determined based on scores for faculty, research and postgraduate success.
The Lone Star State is home to some No. 1 programs. As the country's top crude oil producer, it's a good state for future petroleum engineers. The University of Texas at Austin just happens to have the best petroleum engineering graduate program in the country, for one example. The report notes that tuition for UT Austin's engineering school will run $10,554 for in-state students per year and $19,320 for out-of-state students. The other top-ranked program from Longhorn U is the McCombs School of Business accounting program.
In contrast, the report shows that rival school Texas A&M University has the second-best petroleum engineering program in the nation. Tuition in College Station for the graduate engineering classes runs $7,802 for in-state and $17,370 for full-time students from out-of-state.
