There are somewhere between 1,000 and 17,393,876 traffic intersections in Dallas. And many of them are quite problematic. If you’re like us, that’s a lot of regularly scheduled, yet always inconvenient, frustration from behind the wheel.
We can safely assume that many of our readers experience headaches while waiting for a light to turn green because a large number of readers told us that they literally think every intersection in Dallas is the worst.
Earlier this week, we took to our various social media channels to ask readers which interaction in Dallas they think is the worst. We’re happy to report that in this day and age of political polarization, there are still some things we can all agree on. And just how much a lousy intersection sucks is seemingly at the top of that list of shared headaches.
Some folks simply chimed in with the names of the streets, while some offered up colorful explanations as to why a certain spot really gets their goat. And then, you had the “all of them” commenters. In fact, some version of “all Dallas intersections are horrible” wound up being the top vote-getter, so please forgive us as we simply give that understandable, but too-vague reply an honorable mention prize here.
See below for how our readers ranked the worst intersections in Dallas:
3. Buckner Boulevard and Garland Road
One social media commenter noted that it “takes about five light cycles southbound Buckner to get to Garland Rd late afternoon, early evening.” Indeed, one doesn’t have to endure this intersection more than a few times to understand just how congested it can get. The intersection, right near Casa Linda Plaza and close to White Rock Lake, is a busy one, to be sure. On its own, Buckner is infamous for the high number of deadly traffic accidents that occur on it every year.
2. Gaston Avenue, Garland Road and Grand Avenue
Are you lacking excitement in your daily routine? Need a dose of confusion and danger mixed into your workday? Look no further than the good ol’ 3G. Not too far from the previously listed intersection, the spot where Gaston, Garland and Grand converge offers a master class in how not to design a busy city thoroughfare. It’s fine if you’re not terribly worried about which road you’re driving on or turning onto, since the signage can be a tad misleading. And the regular construction and lengthy crosswalks never make things more difficult at all. Never! Of course, improvements have been made over the years, and there seems to always be some sort of plan in place to make even more, so here’s to hoping.
1. Lovers Lane and Greenville Avenue
This dreaded section of the map seems to check off every box an intersection can have for what makes one terrible. This spot is never not packed, and it’s never not a problem. A heavy amount of pedestrian traffic in this area certainly doesn’t help matters, and let’s not forget about the multiple turn lanes that seem to only add to the chaos. The reason so many of us travel in that area is what makes it so problematic, after all. There’s a lot of cool stuff to get to right around there, and this intersection sits in the middle of one of the more direct ways to get to so many bars, restaurants and shopping options. Make your way through this intersection at your own risk. If you get through unscathed and with your sanity intact, we think you’ll still understand why so many readers picked this one as the worst intersection in Dallas.
