The Quad, a historic and recently renovated mixed-use development along Routh Street in Uptown, announced last year that many new restaurants would open there in 2025, with the latest announced just this week: Two Hands, an all-day Australian cafe.

The cafe first opened in New York in 2014 and has multiple locations there, as well as in Tennessee, Colorado and one in Austin. The Uptown development is scheduled to open in early June at 2681 Howell St.

Two Hands is a full-service concept that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner within its 3,000-square-foot space. Despite being from across the Pacific, it still emphasizes a community-oriented dining experience and sustainable, local sourcing.

Texas-based architecture and design firm, Studio ELES, brought the fresh and chic aesthetic to life, including a floor-to-ceiling glass frontage, a coffee bar, 1970s Pioneer speakers and polished concrete floors. A piece of art commissioned by local artist Zac Chambers is a standout highlight.

"We have been looking at Dallas ever since opening in Austin," founder and CEO Henry Roberts said in a press release. "It always felt like the next step in our Texas expansion. We are excited to finally be opening our doors in this great city."

The menu is "Aussie-style" with healthy, but elevated staples and a seasonal rotation. But it's really a hodgepodge (in a good way) of many things, like hummus, burrata, quinoa bowls, chicken salad sandwiches and two-handed burgers.

Some current highlights from the dinner menu include an eggplant redang curry and steak au poivre, but we have our eyes on the three-course prix fixe dinner for $49, which you can take a peek at the Austin menu for an idea of what it entails. And of course, it wouldn't be an Australian Cafe without banana bread on the menu. They even have a banana bread espresso martini made with vodka, espresso, oat milk and crème de banane.

The beverage program has other distinct cocktails (a boozy lavender lemonade), wine, local beer and zero-proof drinks, as well as coffee, matcha, chai and smoothies.

Two Hands Dallas will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Happy Hour will be offered daily from 4-6 p.m., with $3 off signature cocktails like the Two Hands banana bread espresso martini and $2 off beer and wine.
