Drizzle Cheesecakes will open its first storefront inside the Toyota Music Factory in Irving on Saturday, Jan. 18., at 11 a.m.

The original cheesecake on a stick took off at the State Fair of Texas and won the Big Tex Choice Awards in 2023, which put the over-the-top cheesecake creations (literally) on the map.

If you didn't want to wait in line out the door for a $20 Belgian chocolate-dipped slice, the new shop gives everyone the chance to try, but at a fraction of the price tag.

Slices start at $12.99 before tax, but if you go this weekend for the grand opening, all slices are 30% off. There will most definitely be a line, so perhaps let the hype cool down before dropping in.

We peeked at a photo from their Google Maps info page to get a visual of the flavor offerings: hazelnut deluxe, red velvet, strawberry crunch, peanut butter dreams, Biscoff Delight, Oreo, churro crumble, sweet and salty pretzel, and plain are all on the menu. To go with the cheesecake is the standard selection of espresso drinks.

State Fair of Texas
Before slinging sweets, Stephen El Gidi, the owner of Drizzle, was a two-time Olympic athlete who competed in the 100-meter butterfly event during the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. After retiring in early 2020, he started Drizzle Cheesecakes as a side hustle at summer festivals.

Although El Gidi was born in Libya and raised in Canada, his next step was to sell his cheesecakes in Texas. He had eyes specifically on Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.

He told The Dallas Morning News that in 2021 he found the emails of every employee who worked for the amusement park and emailed them incessantly. One day, his competitive nature paid off and he was invited to test the cheesecakes at Six Flags' Annual Holiday in the Park.

The following year, 2022, El Gidi was accepted as a State Fair of Texas concessionaire. His Biscoff Delight won "best taste-sweet" in the 2023 Big Tex Choice Awards. He says those two large-scale concessions, in addition to the Big Tex Choice Award, helped him open his first-ever storefront, which happens Saturday.

Drizzle Cheesecakes has made appearances at the Texas State Fair, Oklahoma State Fair, Six Flags Over Texas and in Ontario, Canada. Now, they'll be a year-round treat in North Texas.

Drizzle Cheesecakes, 310 W. Las Colinas Blvd., Irving. Hours will be posted later.
