This New Preston Center Spot Is Casual, Cozy and Very French — Sort Of

Stephan Courseau and Daniele Garcia of Travis Street Hospitality have been infusing French-inspired cuisine with a fresh global perspective in the Knox/Henderson district since 2013.

They debuted with the neighborhood restaurant Le Bilboquet, and now they're expanding beyond their original digs with the opening of Frenchie, an all-day café in the Preston Center, near Trova Wine + Market and Il Bracco.

Frenchie is the kind of place you pretend you've just stumbled upon when you totally planned it.

The new brasserie was designed as a casual, everyday restaurant serving an all-day menu of lunch and dinner, with breakfast set to launch in the coming weeks.

It's the first French outpost from Travis Street without white tablecloths. Instead, they're leaning towards a more family-friendly venture that blends the founders' assimilation into American culture from France.

"Frenchie is an American French restaurant made by French guys who are now in the American mainstream," Courseau said in a statement. "Frenchie represents the version of the French people we are today. It's who we became over the years – authentic to who we are today."

It may be taking over the old Corner Bakery spot and retaining its casual essence, but it will still have a classic French bistro feel. Pewter bar tops, rattan chairs, brass sconces and rows of cozy banquettes elevate the space and bring in a nod to a French Riviera-esque design.

French-born chef Bruno Davaillon created a menu that highlights French comfort food with all-day versatility.

Coffee and croissants in the morning will shift to onion soup and burgers for lunch. Steak frites will be an essential at dinner, as will profiteroles (cream puffs) for dessert. Crepes, rillettes, quiche, poulet rôti and tartare de boeuf (beef tartar) will be more options throughout the day.

Travis Street Hospitality's executive mixologist, Mario Martinez, is creating a cocktail menu and a wine list exclusively for Frenchie, featuring small French wineries. A freezer martini that is custom-bottled and pre-chilled by Martinez is a beverage menu highlight. We feel like it's about to be a highlight for us soon too.

Travis Street Hospitality launched two new concepts last year, Le PasSage and Rose Café, both at The Terminal at Katy Trail, and they're finally ready to plant new roots in a new facet of Dallas' dining scene. A proper review of Frenchie will be coming soon.
