John Laughman, Martin House Brewing Company's brewmaster and head of production, suffered a serious fall that has left him in a coma in an intensive care unit.

The fall caused serious skull fractures and brain bleeds. Despite the severe injuries, Laughman is making daily progress as the road to recovery begins.

A GoFundMe has been created for his wife and daughter to help cover growing medical expenses as Laughman, who is known as "Beef," continues receiving medical care, including rehabilitation and other daily expenses.
Martin House, the fourth-largest independent craft brewery in Texas, is known for its funky, weird beer flavors.

Laughman started as a shift brewer before becoming head brewer in 2022, and has helped create recipes like Murph Juice, a barbecue sauce flavored beer, and the Best Maid Sour Pickle beer brewed with juice from Best Maid pickles. Laughman also had a large part in establishing Parker County Brewing Co., the first brewery in Parker County; it was also his first time professionally brewing at age 21.

Laughman has been an indispensable asset to Martin House, not only for his great brewing contributions but also because of the relationships he has built with others at the brewery.

“Beef writes our recipes and creates all the beers you love,” Martin House writes on an Instagram post. “But that’s secondary to his actual role at Martin House, which is being our best friend, the life of the party, the dude that’s always gonna make you smile, and he is the reason that we look forward to going to work every day.”

Family, friends and customers are all wishing him the best in his recovery. Martin House’s post dedicated to Laughman also said they are trying to think of other ways they can “rally around him and make him proud” during this arduous time.
