Cane Rosso's Brunch Sandwich and $2 Mimosas Make Great Combo

We may have gone for the brunch, but will be returning again, and again, for the breakfast sandwich.

Last month Cane Rosso brought its legendary brunch back, offering $2 mimosas and signature breakfast-themed pies. They're two items that many would assume create the pizzeria's cult following after one of those "just one more drink" kind of nights.

But to our complete and utter shock, it's the diabolically good breakfast sandwich. We encourage everyone to pop in over the weekend to run through the brunch menu, but you have to try the sandwich.

The sandwich is made-to-order with a sausage and egg scramble, soppressata, bacon and provolone all stuffed into a toasted sesame hoagie. A side of tots is sprinkled with herbs, seasoning and cheese.

Put simply, it's a breakfast sandwich with the essence of a pizza.

The sesame hoagie is toasted on a flat top, rendering the outside just a little crispy and the inside is hot and buttery. The eggs and sausage give it the classic flavors of breakfast while the salami and provolone bring in a deep richness and nice twist. No sauce, yet it has the perfect amount of moisture and toppings-to-bread ratio.

How are people not banging down Cane Rosso's door for this?

In our perfect world, all of these seats would be filled with people eating Cane Rosso's brunch sandwich.

Then, just when you think it couldn't get better, you grab one of those tots, which, like the sandwich, don't need the help of any sauce. We flagged our server just to tell him how good the sandwich was, but it was like preaching to the choir. He already knew.

Before we felt like we discovered fire, our visit started with a Pepperoni Mary, Cane Rosso's take on a bloody mary made with pepperoni-infused vodka, Filthy mix, sweet drop pepper and lemon. On top, there is a giardiniera skewer garnish.

The mix and lemon take center stage with the drink's strong zing and refreshing taste. You can't even taste the vodka, but you will notice a slight kick on the back from the pepperoni infusion. The most expensive brunch drink at $9, it pairs best with the pizzas and savory items.

Also here are the classic $2 mimosas, $3 frosé, and $7 bellinis with your choice of peach, strawberry or passionfruit-pineapple purée.

We also ordered the Migas Pie, made with housemade mozzarella, spicy tomato salsa, roasted chicken, red onion, sunny eggs, crushed tortilla strips and parmesan. It's surprisingly light for what's packed onto this thing, and we suspect the old-school pizza with a bacon gravy base is just as good.

Pizza doughnuts, an egg white frittata and wood-fired eggs in purgatory make up the rest of the brunch menu, but don't stray from the goal here. Go order that sandwich.

(And don't use parking as an excuse not to go because the meters are free in Deep Ellum during the day). Go on now, git!
