Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.
Maybe pide will sell better if we call it a “pizza canoe.” Imagine rowing to safety on top of a long, thin pizza and you have a pretty good metaphor for a visit to Istanbul Palace in Richardson. Hangovers, bad moods and very small bodies of water all bow before Istanbul Palace’s pide, a crisp-bottomed pie with a smoky char from the restaurant’s old-school oven.
The simplest, best way to go is to top a pide with sucuk, a kind of spicy red sausage, and cheese. The result looks like French bread pizzas from the frozen aisle, but tastes smokier, dusker, spicier and ultra-fresh. Istanbul Palace is a lively bar to watch European soccer, too, so next time you’re going out to catch some sports and snarf some pizza, order the canoe.
