There’s a new chef at The Landmark, an upscale modern American restaurant inside the grand Warwick Melrose hotel, and we got a peek at the new menu, which will become available Feb. 8. According to his Linkedin, chef Patrick McElroy was previously executive chef at both Hotel Dallas and Hilton Dallas Park Cities. First, let’s take a look at the dinner menu.
There’s nothing obscene or crazy about this menu, but a couple items caught our attention, like the $8 smoked asparagus bisque dusted with Brazos Valley brie and Parmesan dust. Something about that combination of words — “smoked,” “asparagus” and “bisque” — is quite appealing. I also like the look of that blackened pork tenderloin ($32) with brandy apple chutney, maple sweet potato hash and mission figs. If there’s one thing I dig, it’s fancy hash — plus, according to his interview with D Magazine, it’s McElroy’s favorite dish on the menu. The most expensive item on the dinner menu is, unsurprisingly, the $46 prime New York strip with salted arugula and a smoked pear reduction. Gotta have some fancy steaks on a fancy hotel menu.
The breakfast menu seems pretty boilerplate as well, as far as hotel restaurant menus go: oatmeal, omelets, eggs Benedict, $5 servings of Frosted Flakes. The item that stuck out on this menu is the Melrose Texas Toast with roasted ginger compote and mascarpone glaze — sounds like my kinda $13 French toast.
Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?
At the Dallas Observer, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of the Dallas Observer, now’s the time to give back.
On the lunch menu, the crab cannoli seems curious, but otherwise it’s a pretty standard menu of salads, sandwiches and wraps. Time will tell if McElroy’s execution will make this fare stand out — see for yourself once the new menu launches next week.
