When the Dallas City Council’s Transportation and Environment Committee meets today, it’ll get a sneak peek at the new and improved IH30-U.S. 80 — the so-called “East Corridor,” or at least the concept of it. For now, of course, this proposal — the brainchild of Friends of Fair Park’s Craig Holcomb, looking to spur development near the dormant Fair Park — is but a figment of a few engineers and illustrators’ imaginations.

The freeway, now eight lanes, would grow to 10 — plus four HOV lanes. And what you see above is the view toward downtown and Deep Ellum from the proposed Exposition Deck Park, among a number of so-called “‘wow’ opportunities” presented in the council’s documents. Some Monday-morning optimism and a pretty picture, if nothing else.
