The past couple of months have found us talking a lot about the new, upcoming release from the Old 97’s, The Grand Theatre, Volume One. And we’ve been lavishing that sucker, which is due out on October 12, with all sorts of praise.
Rightfully so, we think. The disc, as we’ve said before, is a throwback 97’s release–a good-time drinking disc filled with train and local references, all backed by a sense of urgency lacking in the last few 97’s discs.
We’ll have much more on the new album in the coming weeks–and, in next week’s paper, some insight from the band and its producer, Salim Nourallah, on the efforts that went in to recording this new release.
You’ll have to wait a few more days for those insights, but you won’t have to wait any longer to get a free taste of the album. The band’s been kind enough to pass along the disc’s lead and title track along as a free download for DC9 readers. Give it a listen after the jump.
