With Brandon Blue currently making some of the most innovative beats in Dallas hip-hop, it’s no wonder Slim Gravy (A.Dd+), Dave (The Mohicans), Dustin Cavazos and -topic joined fellow Brain Gangbanger JT in reworking “Party On,” the lead single from the Numb EP.
Not only is this beat a dramatic improvement from the still-great original, it serves as moment-in-time look into what the Dallas hip-hop scene has to offer right now. Next local anthem? Maybe, but this much is clear: Dallas is asking the nation, “Y’all love this sound or what?”
In other news, after a recent mini-tour of Houston, Austin and San Antonio opening for Kendrick Lamar, Blue’s eyes are now set on this year’s SXSW festival. Brain Gang’s manager, Rico Ripoly, caught us up with their plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the recently released EP.
Blue plans on using the funds from the campaign to produce posters and hard copies of Numb to disperse in Austin during this year’s SXSW. The campaign will run for three weeks, with a goal of $700.
