Citizen Mike Rawlings has put his Mayor cape back on and will host local, federal, state and Dallas ISD officials at a news conference Friday morning. The event, at 9:30 a.m. at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center, is geared toward providing new strategies for Dallas ISD to “increase regional cooperation that can improve long-term educational attainment.”
New DISD Supe Mike Miles will be on hand, as will Todd Williams, the former Goldman Sachs partner and Uplift Education board member now serving as a foot soldier in Rawlings and the business community’s latest front: public education.
Mayor Mike has been missed. Last week he moonlighted as a private citizen to publicly endorse DISD school board candidates Elizabeth Jones (District 1), Dan Micciche (District 3) and Bernadette Nutall (District 9) ahead of the May 12 elections. City ethics rules prohibited Rawlings from endorsing candidates, but because he wasn’t referred to as the mayor in the press release — and because the press release was issued by his friends at the Chamber and not the mayor’s office — it’s no problem. No, really. We swear.
