A week ago, folks by the thousands gathered across the country for a massive series of No Kings protests. Voices raised against President Donald Trump filled streets throughout much of North Texas, including Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton, Carrollton, Plano, Frisco and McKinney.
In many of those areas, and especially in downtown Dallas, rain may have put a physical damper on the proceedings, but judging by what our own Patrick Williams spotted on the scene, spirits and passions didn’t feel a single drop of the wet stuff.
“We are here to say that our faiths stand for compassion, love and mercy … leaders must bring us together,” the Rev. Eric Folkerth told the crowd. Folkerth is one of the leaders of the Clergy League for Emergency Action and Response, an interfaith group including Christian, Muslim and Jewish clergy that organizes vigils outside Dallas’ ICE facility. He called on protesters to pray for ICE agents who are “harming their souls.”
Along with Williams’ notes from the Dallas event, we posted pictures taken to showcase creatively designed posters ranging from humorous to rather direct. This will surely not surprise loyal Observer readers, but our social media followers had a few thoughts on what they saw in our reporting from the scene. What might surprise some is that the Observer’s social media accounts often attract a large number of people who don’t exactly like a lot of the coverage we provide and they seem to revel in adding their voices to our comments sections regardless.
As shocking as that is, it’s true. Below is a sampling of thoughts from both “No Kings Haters” and the “No Kings Supporters” as expressed on our Facebook and Instagram accounts. Check them out and feel free to join in on the fun yourself! Have an opinion on this you’d like to share with us and the Dallas community? The No Kings Haters Had a Field Day With the No Kings Rain:
Freddie on Instagram:
I wonder how much they got paid it’s meaningless. Most people protesting have mental issues or short on cash
Cory on Facebook:
Oh, is that what was going on yesterday? I thought it was national AARP day.
Straight Frog on Instagram:
Just another fad created by foreign actors
Eric on Facebook:
Good for all of you that showed up. Are you feeling better about yourself now and content with your rebellion from tyranny? I’d rather bend a knee and serve a fictional king than be the king’s jester. Ya’ll should’ve gone in the nude and drawn more publicity.
Yuliana on Instagram:
I wish people put this much effort into local city council and do more for the community that way. But hey you got to exercise your 1st amendment right. Something Charlie Kirk was shot for.
The No Kings Supporters Voiced More Love for the Cause
Mark on Facebook:
As the rain came one of the speakers said there may be rain but, we are the storm. As soon as she said that there was one loud roar of Thunder and that was it. The rain left and we marched
GiGi on Instagram:
I’m so so proud of all the people that stood up for democracy. For our rights. For humanity. Thank you!!
Sharon on Instagram:
What’s a little rain when our democracy is being ripped to shreds. It was one hell of a day to protest!!!!
Heather on Facebook:
The radical left is out on the streets! Spreading love and unity while maga sits at home bashing everyone with hateful comments and emojis.
John on Facebook:
I love how the ignorant maga don’t understand symbolism and take the term no kings literally. They have the collective IQ of a fucking rock
