On November 14, the New York Post broke news that FC Dallas CEO Doug Quinn had been arrested for assaulting his wife in a luxury hotel room in New York City, where he was celebrating his 50th birthday with his wife, Elizabeth.
As the Post described it, a “hulking” 6’5″, 250-pound Quinn “allegedly pummeled his much-smaller wife’s face and body, choked her with both hands, and held a pillow over her face until she passed out.”
The same day the article appeared, FC Dallas announced that Quinn was taking an indefinite leave of absence to “attend to personal matters.” Turns out, he’s not coming back. Quinn announced today that he’s formally stepping down.
“After much consideration, I have decided to resign from FC Dallas to spend more time with my two beautiful daughters,” Quinn said in a press release.
The release offers a brief summary of his two-year tenure with the club during which he “helped grow the Club’s supporters’ base.”
Clark Hunt, chairman of the Hunt Sports Group, which owns the team, offered additional praise.
“Doug has significantly improved the operations of FC Dallas, and the club is well-positioned for future success,” he says. “We greatly appreciate his many contributions to the club and support his decision to step down to focus on his family and pursue other opportunities.”
The release makes no mention of the allegations that Quinn assaulted his wife but, of course, it doesn’t really need to.
