Really, you would have thought this was a no-brainer. But, no, only took 35 years before Mattel decided to release Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Barbies, expected in a Wal-Mart near you before Christmas. They’ll come in three flavors, none of them lead: “Caucasian (blonde), African-American and Hispanic (brunette) versions,” says the press release this morning. They’re expected to ship in December. Ya think?
No doubt you and the ghost of Bert Convy are thrilled by the news, but not nearly as much as Barbie designer and Project Runway guest judge Robert Best, who says, “I grew up seeing them on television and was impressed with their determination, precision, beauty and poise. It was an honor and personal dream come true designing the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Barbie dolls and I know that fans around the world are going to cheer for them.” You can put ’em on a shelf with your Tony Romo doll, maybe. –Robert Wilonsky
