Carl Everett, back when he was a Texas Ranger

I see that Deadspin just posted a locker-room story from “former Dallas Observer reporter John Gonzalez,” whoever he is. It’s more or less a rehashing of this column John wrote for the paper version of Unfair Park way, way back in 2003, when he had a heated run-in with then-Texas Ranger Carl Everett during spring training. There is some additional commentary thrown — like, oh, the observation that “we had hooker ads in the back of the paper, which clearly made us better than the Morning News.” Clearly. Also, Gonz offers his postmortem: “Eventually Everett offered to shave my head.” Alas, John passed. –Robert Wilonsky
