The description says only that this was a vacant home in South Dallas formerly “occupied by homeless people. It was unknown if it was set intentionally or not.”
Last night we reached out to Gerber — a firefighter, of course; hence his moniker Firehouse Photographer — and he offered a few more details, among them: The picture was taken in the wee small hours of the morning on Monday by a fellow firefighter, and the house was on Grand Avenue. (Specifically, 2622 Grand Avenue, say Dallas Fire-Rescue officials, and the call came in at 11:22 p.m. on Sunday.) Writes Gerber, “The guy that actually took the photos was riding the ambulance that night, and when they got there, the driver on the chief’s car asked him to take the camera and take pictures since there was no one hurt.” –Robert Wilonsky
