Picked up your fresh-off-the-presses print issue of this week’s Observer yet? No? Well, go do so right now. We’ll wait.
Got it? Good!
Now, flip the issue open. Not far, just right there after the cover. Yeah, page 3. There, you’ll notice — it’s tough not to — a massive, full-page, color ad promoting a performance from mashup hero Girl Talk, set to take at the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma, on Sunday, July 3.
Funny thing about that ad and the show it’s promoting: As of right this second, it’s moot. The show’s been canceled. The fine people at WinStar’s box office didn’t have a particular reason for the cancellation when we called to find out why, but they did tell us that all tickets purchased will be refunded. So, if you got shut-out from buying tickets for Girl Talk’s sold-out gig tonight at the Granada Theater and then went ahead and bought tickets to this July 3 show, well… sorry?
Good news is that there’s some other fairly impressive shows beyond the standard senior circuit (Steely Dan, Yes/Styx, Wayne Newton, Rick Springfield, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons) and comedy fare (Martin Lawrence, Ron White, Dana Carvey) coming to the casino up north in the coming months.
Among the more interesting shows coming? Sugarland (6/25), Nelly (7/8), Bob Dylan (7/23), ZZ Top (9/24) and — sweet baby Jesus! — Peter Cetera & Richard Marx (1/7)! Hit up the casino’s event page for more information.
