Eluvium combines minimalist electronic, piano and shoegaze music. Among mastermind Matthew Cooper’s connections to the area is a remix of “So Long Lonesome” by Explosions In The Sky. Cooper’s latest album Similies, which was released on Temporary Residence, includes more traditional songwriting and vocals.
Sleep Whale, meanwhile, is a Denton institution in folkish ambient music. They were featured on a DC9 Live at El Sibil a few months ago. Last year, the band changed its name from Mom to Sleep Whale after confusions arising during their European tour–something the band may have to explain when they open up for Eluvium on Mother’s Day.
Also playing is ambient folk singer-songwriter Benouit Pioulard. Should make for a good show.
Many thanks, then, to The Loft for passing along three pairs of tickets for us to hand out to a few lucky DC9 readers hoping to get into this show for free. After all, watching a band that used to be called Mom is a pretty cool way to celebrate Mother’s Day, yeah? We think so. So, if you want the tickets, be among the first three people to email Pete with the phrase “Eluvian House Boat” in the subject line. Good luck!
