In this week’s paper, Cory Graves tackles to subject of tomorrow night’s Ra Ra Riot-headlined gig at the Granada. In short, he writes:
Not only was the band’s debut album, 2008’s The Rhumb Line, widely regarded as one of the year’s best, it established the band as chamber pop pioneers in a sense, because of its use of cello and violin to create complicated sound textures that push beyond the calamitous hymns of predecessors Arcade Fire.
Some fine praise right there–and I can’t really argue, considering how much I enjoyed the disc. Hell, even though it’ll be going up as direct competition to our own Best of Dallas party at Trees tomorrow night, I still might sneak over to the Granada for a peak.
