In this week’s paper, Cory Graves tackles to subject of tomorrow night’s Ra Ra Riot-headlined gig at the Granada. In short, he writes:

Not only was the band’s debut album, 2008’s The Rhumb Line, widely regarded as one of the year’s best, it established the band as chamber pop pioneers in a sense, because of its use of cello and violin to create complicated sound textures that push beyond the calamitous hymns of predecessors Arcade Fire.

Some fine praise right there–and I can’t really argue, considering how much I enjoyed the disc. Hell, even though it’ll be going up as direct competition to our own Best of Dallas party at Trees tomorrow night, I still might sneak over to the Granada for a peak. And you can, too–for free, mind you, thanks to the folks at the Granada.Just shoot me an email right now with “Go Orange!” in the subject line, and, if you’re among the first three to do so, you’ll score two passes to tomorrow night’s show.

Why “Go Orange!” though? Ah: The members of Ra Ra Riot and I are all Syracuse University alums. So, y’know, there you go.

Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winners.
