Today is Australia Day, dear readers, in case you didn’t know. Yep, a whole damn day dedicated to celebrating all things Down Under. Go figure.

(Also: It’s the Chinese New Year, if my Replacements calendar is to be trusted.)

To honor this day, you should probably go ahead and read Darryl Smyers’ review of Friday night’s AC/DC show at the AAC, a show that inspired a whole page of coverage in last week’s print edition–including this piece from Cole Haddon on the ten greatest Aussie songs of all time, which we ran both because of the AC/DC show and because of this special day today.

But because that list was just one man’s opinion, and, well, because I can, I’m using this day and that list as an excuse to post the above video for a favorite (or perhaps “favourite”?) song of my own: Augie March‘s “One Crowded Hour”. The Melbourne group is a longtime fave in its native country, but remains painfully under-known elsewhere despite the fact that its 2006 record, Moo, You Bloody Choir, from which the above song is culled, is downright gorgeous.

In my book, “One Crowded Hour” is among the top pop songs of the decade. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen/watch.
