I believe in the enterainment biz this is called “repurposing.” Yesterday we mentioned former Observer music editor Sarah Hepola’s piece on Slate about how she intends to give up her blog to do other things, like watch TV. Turns out some folks at National Public Radio dug the piece too and asked Sarah to read a shorter version of it for NPR’s afternoon show Day to Day, which doesn’t actually air in Dallas. (Slate and Day to Day are actually partners; many of the Web site’s writers contribute to the show, which, in the interest of full disclosure, used to use me till it wised up and banished me to AM radio guest shots.) But fret not: You can still catch American Idol‘s biggest fan by tuning your Interweb here this afternoon. And Sarah sends this note about her experience taping the piece: “On the way home, I ran into a Culkin brother (I believe it was Kieran), which in many cultures is a sign of good luck!” Gems like that got her where she is today. –Robert Wilonsky
