Is it me, or does HKS’ new Liverpool stadium look like a flattened Texas Stadium?
Now that Tom Hicks and his Canadian partner in Liverpool FC have secured the dough with which to refinance their investment in the storied franchise, it’s on to building that long-promised £300 million Stanley Park stadium. The 71,000-seater will go, as expected, to a firm with which Hicks is very familiar: Dallas-based HKS, Inc. Architecture Engineering, designers of the new Dallas Cowboys megastadium in Arlington, the American Airlines Center, Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie and Pizza Hut Park. Plenty of renderings of the new stadium are available here.
Says Hicks on the official Liverpool FC site: “HKS has developed a more efficient design that, at the same time, is just as stunning as its original design. Liverpool supporters should have high expectations for the future: a premier sporting experience at their new stadium at Stanley Park and a winning Club on the pitch for years to come.” Note to Liverpool fans: Never trust the Texas Rangers owner when he uses the words “winning” and “pitch” in the same sentence. –Robert Wilonsky
