Jovan!

Don’t call it a comeback, he’s been here for years, rockin’ his peers and puttin’ suckas in fear. Philyaw’s the name. Jeffry Jovan Philyaw — the man of the hour, tower of power ready to devour yet again with a whatsit whose description sounds vaguely like his CueCat, the bar-code scanner for whom Convergence Day never came (only Last Day … renew, renew, renew).

Or: recycle, recycle, recycle? Because Jovan and David Kent Mathews, both still at LV Partners on Cole Avenue, got themselves an official U.S. Patent & Trademark Office whassup last week for a “method and apparatus for launching a web browser in response to scanning of product information,” which sounds very much like a certain something into which Belo Corp. sunk a good $40 million (yes, that’s right). Rumor is Robert Decherd is currently cloning an army of CueCats in order to defeat the Separatists, with whom he’s secretly in cahoots. –Robert Wilonsky
