Dunno why I didn’t think of this sooner — burying a certain 1996 Jeep Cherokee of my acquaintance in a field somewhere, ditching it in a nearby river whose trees are in need of chopping down or just setting the sumbitch on fire. Why not? According to this Associated Press report this morning, it’s all the rage in Dallas County, where, sheriff’s department investigator Tom Reilly says “suspicious auto theft reports have increased 12 percent this year” as the cash-strapped look for some fraudulent insurance money. Says Reilly, “We see people doing this kind of crime who ordinarily wouldn’t steal candy from a store.”
