The New York Times this morning has the details on a new lawsuit filed by the Sly Stone against his longtime manager, which claims that the Denton-born funk legend is owed some $20 to $30 million in royalties and “unspecified financial damages,” whatever those are.
The former manager’s lawyer doesn’t seem too worried, telling the NYT that “Mr. Stewart [Stone’s born surname] would like to rewrite history. He would like to get everything back even though he owes money.” So, really, who knows where this will lead?
If nothing else, though, this news kinda clears up the backstory behind Sly and the Family Stone popping up out of nowhere to appear on this year’s Coachella bill, huh?
