Caught up with the mayor after he gave the obligatory interview to a
television reporter, and he looked (and sounded) a little more
optimistic. Asked why this election wound up being about him, he said
that he disagreed.
“They played that game, but it wasn’t about me,” he said forcefully.
“We had every business organization for the hotel and every trade
organization for it. It wasn’t about me.”
It’s loud here at The
Loft at Gilly’s, and with the DJ playing Katy Perry and Pink, it’s has
the feel of a wedding reception. Just about everyone here seems
surprisingly upbeat give the closeness of the contest, though I did
eavesdrop on a pair of stern, middle-aged men dressed in business
attire chatting nervously about vote.
“As long as we win,” one of the men whispered to his friend, “I don’t care if it’s by one vote.”
He may get his wish.
