Turns out Tum Tum’s hardly the only local hip-hop artist making waves this week…
- Yesterday, “Little Secret,” the new music video from the 17-year-old, Oak Cliff-dwelling, Young Money-signed rapper known as Lil Twist, reached the No. 1 spot on BET’s long-running 106 & Park video countdown. The song (watch the video here) finds Twist collaborating with Bow Wow,
another rapper who first made a name for himself while in his teens.
Twist recently sat down with DC9 contributor Jake Crates for a piece on
AllHipHop.com and spoke
about his upcoming debut release, his relationship with his mentor Lil
Wayne and his relationship with his “best friend” Justin Bieber.
- Turns out those reports about the GS Boyz’s breakup may have been a little immature. The group, best known for bringing “The Stanky Legg” into modern lexicon,
is still around, as the above video, promoting the song “All I Ever
Wanted” off the group’s new mixtape, proves. Back in April, reports said
GS Boyz members Soufside and Prince were leaving the group–and, while they sure did, in fact, leave their three fellow members by the wayside, the duo is still working together and still operating under the same name. Give the above clip a listen; Prince explains that their quintet’s down to two, as well as some reasoning, when the second verse comes around. And, maybe I’m just in a nice mood today, but this song’s not all that bad. Am I nuts?
- Treal Lee and Prince Rick, the guys behind the fairly ridiculous, but also pretty awesome “Mr. Hit Dat Hoe” have moved on and are trying their darnedest to move past the ol’ one-hit wonder tag. These days, as their Atlanta-based manager Collipark promised us back in February, they’re trying to do so by moving past the D-Town Boogie dance craze. Their last effort, “Fresh Fosho” kind of flopped, but their latest, “Throwed Off (Fuck Errbody),” is something of a jam. Last Thursday, the duo shot a music video for the song at Club Pure.
- Lastly, keep an eye out for this coming issue of the Observer, which features an interview with perhaps Dallas’ rap star of the moment, Dorrough, as we head toward the release of his sophomore album, Get Big, on Tuesday, September 7.
…and that pretty much covers our local hip-hop dalliances for the week. We’ll return to our regularly scheduled local indie rock obsessions in the morning.
