Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Director: Stephen Daldry Writer: Eric Roth Condensed Cast: Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Thomas Horn
You may have heard about this one. Maybe because it’s already scooping up awards on it’s way to the Oscars (our own DFWFCA gave it 3rd in the year’s best pictures and I myself ranked it at #4 in my Best Damn Films of 2011). Or maybe you’ve heard of it for the opposite reasons, because the critics that don’t seem to feel that fond about it claim it’s manipulative “9/11 porn” (their words, not mine). I say don’t let either opinion sway you and see the film about a boy trying to make sense of his father’s death on 9/11 for yourself to decide how you feel. That’s what movies are all about, after all! Plus, I’ll be extremely proud and incredibly engrossed with you!

Haywire
Director: Steven Soderbergh Writer: Lem Dobbs Condensed Cast: Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor
Mr. Soderbergh has been quite busy lately! Last year he gave us the unseen The Last Time I Saw Michael Gregg and the underappreciated Contagion. Now he’s back dabbling in a genre we know him well for with Haywire, and making Dallas-born champion MMA fighter turned actress, Gina Carano, a star while he’s at it. The indie action thriller centers around a black ops super soldier who’s looking to settle the score after she’s set up during a mission. There’s enough male and female beefcakes and buns in this movie to turn the theater into a butcher shop!
Underworld Awakening
Director: Måns Mårlind, Björn Stein Writer: Len Wiseman, John Hlavin, Allison Burnett, J. Michael Straczynski Condensed Cast: Kate Beckinsale, Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy
The fourth in the Underworld series, pits not vampire versus werewolf but both supernatural species versus humankind, who have now discovered the existence of the fanged and furry creatures of the night and aim to wipe them off the planet. Kate Beckinsale returns as the vampiress heroine, who leads the former foes turned friends into battle against man. This ain’t no Twilight folks…jorts and awkward adolescent sexual tension are replaced with an old fashioned vampire/werewolf/human battle royale!
Red Tails
George Lucas’ first non-Star Wars non-Indiana Jones related project since 1994’s Radioland Murders centers around the legendary and iconic Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first black military airmen who flew in the face of adversity, segregation, and racism to become some of WWII’s most distinguished heroes. Not to mention the cast is full of more stars than a decorated general’s uniform!
Director: Anthony Hemingway Writer: John Ridley, George Lucas Condensed Cast: Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston
