This New York Times story from today, about a flashy full-length trucking documentary that also serves as an advertisement for a brand-new big-dollar big rig, is sorta making the rounds today. Gawker’s already dubbed Drive and Deliver as “the most efficient product placement of all time!,” a tagline not likely to make the poster for the movie directed by the rather big-time Brett Morgan, Academy Award-nominated maker of the Sundancer Chicago 10 and that Robert Evans doc paid for by Graydon Carter.

Either way, I finally read The Times‘ piece and discovered this notable item of local interest: The doc, which pimps Navistar International Corporation’s LoneStar, makes its world premiere next Friday at the Great American Trucking Show at the Dallas Convention Center. (Actually, looks as though the film bows at the Angelika Film Center in Mockingbird Station; 6 p.m. on August 22, don’t be late.) But speaking of the Great American Trucking Show, no doubt it will be an excellent place to find pieces for your trucker hat collection. Or your wall of empty beer cans. –Robert Wilonsky
