Bad news, Denton-based math-rock fans: Dear Human, an actual instrumental band worth a damn, will be calling it quits this weekend, playing its final show ever on Saturday night as part of a free affair in the ol’ dirty basement of J&J’s Pizza with some support from fellow Denton-dwelling acts Peopleodian, Babar, Two Knights and Monastery — all of which is information you can easily glean from the above poster promoting the event, designed by Benny Bailey for the folks at Gutterth Productions.
As for the design itself? Well, it’s a little confusing — and maybe a
little scientific. To POTW’s untrained eye, it looks like one of those
skinless anatomy models you find in science class or at the doctor’s
office has morphed into a monster. And it appears to be doing a pretty
classical Greek drama pose — until you realize that it’s either eating
the human in its hands or holding it up for sacrifice of another sort.
Either way, an arresting visual, for sure — one helped by the
all–black background which makes the image jump even more.
All in all, a fitting design, since, indeed, this is Dear Human’s demise. Nice stuff.
