A couple weeks ago, Jesse Hughey reviewed the debut release from Fort Worth’s supergroup of sorts, Epic Ruins, quite positively, while salivating at the idea of the album getting the vinyl treatment. As the above poster implies, Hughey gets his wish on Saturday night at Lola’s Saloon in Fort Worth.
While the design of this poster is pretty straightforward — the album
is coming out on vinyl, so the an illustration of that vinyl disc
appears on this poster — it does its job quite well, given the epic,
fantastical and psychedelic nature of the band’s catalog. The real
beauty here, though, is in the simplicity: This poster’s just a
four-color design, and it’s not overloaded with images or details —
just the band names, the dates, the album title, the vinyl illustration
and, sure, a skeleton arm to hammer the whole mystic idea home. And it
works — that or I’ve just been hankering to watch a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
More important, though, is the fact that this show should be quite the
incredible one, featuring three of the Fort’s finest on one stage for
one night.
Think your poster is better? Want to see one of your designs get honored next week? Then go ahead and drop us an email
with an image promoting an upcoming show right here. Oh, and be sure to do so at least a week in advance. Thanks!
