$10,000

It’s an annual tradition around these here pars, when those oh-so-hip folk with the leather jackets and motorcycles fake square off against the ones in square-framed glasses and their Italian scooters. Yes, it’s Rockers vs. Mods weekend. And this weekend’s festivities are once again quite full of events to keep those vying to keep the dream of ’60s England alive in Dallas, of all places.

So don’t be surprised to be caught up in some biker traffic, starting tonight, as things get going with a meet-and-greet at Amsterdam bar in Expo Park, then a “Night of Northern Soul” at Sons of Hermann Hall. Tomorrow’s the big day, of course: There are rides planned, of course, as well as an eight-band bill at Lee Harvey’s that starts at 3 p.m. And, on Sunday? You guessed it: More rides.

Some cool extras this time around, though: Saturday’s Lee Harvey’s get-together will double as a casting call for a movie being shot this summer in Houston called Volition, for which the filmmakers are seeking, organizers of the event tell us, “people living and looking the 1960’s Cafe Racer / Rocker Culture” part.

This, too, is a touching add to this year’s festivities: A portion of the proceeds made at this year’s event will be donated to the Deep Ellum Community Association in the name of the recently departed Frankie Campagna, among the most visible rockers in the regional biker crowd.

After the jump, a clip the folks at Discovery HD shot of last year’s event, so you can get a little bit of the flavor of the event. Enjoy.
