Earlier this week, Eric Nicholson told you about the latest travesty in the Great Trinity Forest: a long muddy gash of felled trees, cut through the woods by a contractor working to build the private Trinity Forest Golf Club on city property. Ben Sandifer, one of the chief defenders of a forest the city seems intent on hacking apart, found the damage caused by an excavator before Christmas. He and other friends of the forest fear that work on the golf course, including the erection of a fence to keep feral hogs off the links, could drive away wildlife that rely on a “secret pond” that fills up after the river floods, providing shelter and food to wildlife.
