To keep this brief, here’s the takeaway from this morning’s New York Times profile of former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, who’s now “the unlikely new U.S. trade representative,” as the paper puts it. The gist of the story is this: Everybody likes Ron Kirk. Everybody. So far. Because, well, they always have. Which is how he settled “a long-standing dispute over exports of American beef from hormone-treated cows to Europe” within the first two weeks of being sworn in. As for Kirk, well, far as he’s concerned, this is why he’s getting stuff done so danged pronto:

“I bring the urgency, the freshness, the bluntness of a mayor,” he said in an interview Thursday. “I’m here to solve problems.”
