John Neely Bryan’s wife’s Bible is missing from the Hall of State.
Speaking of the Hall of State, as I was moments ago, seems that the Dallas Historical Society is missing a few of “its most significant holdings” from its estimable collection stored there. So reports KERA’s Arts + Culture blog, which says that among the items are “the personal effects of Gen. Santa Anna, The Beeman Family Bible (the Bible belonging to John Neely Bryan’s wife)” and other priceless turn-of-the-century artifacts.
How’d it happen? “The DHS believes the objects may have been removed during a two-day period when a television production crew was using the Hall of State,” says KERA’s blog, “where the artifacts are stored.” The reward’s $10,000 for the items’ return. KERA-FM (90.1) will have a longer piece about this today, during All Things Considered. –Robert Wilonsky
